The book The Joy of Educating ChildrenA Practical Guide for Jewish Parents Based on the Writings of Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch. Hardcover.

The Joy of Educating Children Content

Children who are well behaved and obedient are such a pleasure! As parents, what must you do so that your offspring turn out this way? Should parents relate to their children as authority figures or as friends? When a parent commands his child or forbids him something and the child asks for an explanation, is the parent required to comply with the request? When parents see a fight break out between their children, should they be upset or regard it as natural? At what stage in a child's life should his parents start to try to mold his moral and ethical character? Age seven? Age four? Maybe they should start earlier? These are but a few of the common and pressing questions of any conscientious adult who is blessed with children. Parents have many questions about the task of child rearing. Unfortunately, even amongst Torah Jewry, there is a widespread feeling that practically no reliable guidance is available on the subject, as if, G-d forbid, the Torah perspective on these issues never has been clearly stated. In truth, however, Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch zt'l wrote extensively the subject, and recently, a new sefer was published that culls from his writings and provides a timeless, proven formula for successfully raising our children to Torah and mitzvot. Not even 160 pages in length, written in clear, flowing English, "The Joy of Educating Children" is a concise, inspiring and priceless tool and methodology for bringing up our children properly. "This sefer can save our generation. It can cure the most difficult problems that we face in the area of chinuch." When informed that Avnei Chinuch would be rendered into English, he remarked, "Jewish parents in America are in particularly great need of the sefer, because of the negative influence of incorrect approaches to chinuch that are popular and prevalent in America." The Hebrew version, which was compiled by Rabbi A. Buchner.
